  • We also have a forum where you can discuss strategies with other players.

Tipping Point Questions

I previously bought Fate of the World, do I need to buy Tipping Point to get all the extras?

I bought a Fate of the World Site-licence, do I need to upgrade to Tipping Point?

Site-Licence Questions

I would like to use Fate of the World in my classroom. How can I purchase copies for classroom or computer lab use?

  • You'll want a site licence key. Just click the “Site Licence” open on our buy page.

  • NOTE: If you want the game for fewer than 10 computers, it may be more cost effective to purchase individual copies of the main game. You are allowed to use these copies in a classroom setting, provided that each copy installed has a unique user key.

What is a site licence and how is it different from the other version?

  • A site licence allows a program or application to be installed and used by multiple computers and/or users at the same time.
  • Normally, when you purchase a PC game or other piece of software, the licence that comes with it states that it should only be installed and used on one computer.

How do I use it?

  • Install the game on the computers you require. We recommend you download the installer (the file you are linked to from your purchase email) onto a portable drive, and load it onto the required computers from that drive. Please check with your System Administrator for the best way to distribute the software to the target computers.
  • Save your license key to <installation location>\share\fotw\licence.txt (note the spelling!) to avoid the license key prompt when the game is launched for the first time.

What does “60 seats maximum” mean?

  • This refers to the number of computers on which the game is installed at any given time. This means if you replace any PCs, you are free to reinstall the game on them so long as the maximum number of copies in use at any one time does not exceed 60.

Who keeps track of the installs?

  • When you run a copy of the game on a computer that is connected to the internet, it sends a message to our server that a particular key is in use.

What happens if we exceed the maximum number of installs?

  • If we become aware that you have exceeded the maximum number of installs, we will notify you and attempt to resolve any problems you may be having with installs. In the case of persistent and excessive violation of the maximum, we may cancel the site-licence key issued to you. If your key is revoked due to license violations, you will not be refunded.

How do I save/load a game from a different place on my computer?

  • Version 1.0.7 onwards: Players can now override the default save/load location. Press the 'Alt' key on the keyboard when in the 'Load Game' or 'Save Game' screen to access this functionality. Click the 'Load/Save File' button to open a dialogue to chose the location of the file.
  • Please note: Games saved in this manner will not show up in the list of saves, and can only be accessed in this way.

Does Fate of the World come with any curriculum or teaching materials?

  • We do not have any supporting materials and at present we do not have plans to produce any.
  • While we do recognize the potential value of Fate of the World is a classroom setting, we did not design it as an educational product. However, we are interested in how the game is used in classrooms, and are always glad to hear from teachers how they incorporate it into their curriculum (and how their students felt!)

  • If you produce any supporting materials we would love you to share them with us and give us permission to share them with others. Please email info@red-redemption.com .

Where can I find the full licencing terms?

  • Our full end user licence agreement is here.

Technical Questions

When I install the game, all I get is a blank screen. What gives?

  • Chances are your computer does not meet the minimum specifications. If it does, please report any technical problems here. For workarounds to some common problems please check our Release Notes.

If I buy the game on your site, will I need to buy it again to play it on Steam?

Does the game have DRM, and, if so, in what form?

  • Fate of the World has a licence key check which logs used keys on an online server. This check only happens if you are connected to the Internet and allows us to see which keys are in use. Internet access is not required to play Fate of the World.
  • No additional software is installed to check the validity your license and once your licence key is entered you will never be blocked from playing Fate of the World by any DRM software. This answer does not apply to the Steam version of the game which uses Steam's own DRM.

How do I give you my feedback about Fate of the World?

How do I report bugs and technical issues?

  • Essentially, send us your DxDiag.txt and your game error log. If that sounds like gibberish, here’s what you do:

    1. Send us your DirectX information:
      1. Press Start/Windows button on the taskbar.
      2. In Windows Vista or 7 type dxdiag in the Search Programs and Files box; In Windows XP press run and type dxdiag.

      3. Press Enter and the DirectX diagnostic tool should launch.
      4. Press "Save all information".
      5. Save the DxDiag.txt to a location you can find.

    2. Send us your game's Error Log:
      1. Open Windows Explorer.
      2. On Windows 7 or Vista, navigate to C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\local\fotw (this folder might be hidden!). On Windows XP navigate to C:\Documents & Settings\{your username}\Local Settings\Application Data\fotw (this folder might be hidden!)

      3. Copy the fotw.err.txt to a location you can find.

  • Attach both the DxDiag.txt and fotw.err.txt to an email and email it to support@red-redemption.com with a description of your problem.

  • We know this is a hassle, but it’s immensely helpful. We’ll be sure to send some karma your way.
