New Game: Choosing a Mission
Fate of the World has many missions but most of them must be unlocked by winning other missions. When starting the game, only Rise of Africa will be available. This is the tutorial mission which will guide you through playing the game for the first time.
How the Game Works
In Fate of the World you spend funds to recruit agents in regions and play cards in those regions that represent policy decisions. These policies influence how the world will develop. Some policies require an Office card to be played in the region before you can access them. Some policies become available as a result of policies played (e.g. technologies) or in response to a crisis.
Winning
To victoriously complete missions in Fate, you need to both reach objectives and, more commonly, avoid losing. Fate of the World is a challenging game designed to let you try out different strategies and work out solutions to the world’s problems.
By understanding the world, you can see how your choices change it for better or for worse.
Fate of the World
“The Boldest actions, the Clearest consequences” - G.E.O. Motto
Welcome to the Global Environment Organisation. As our newly appointed leader, it is your vision that guides the world through a dangerous and uncertain future.
The nations of the world have done little to ensure its safety. Realising the dangers ahead, they have given the G.E.O. the task of acting in all our best interests.
2020 will be remembered as the year the world found its path, under your guidance, to a future of certainty and purpose.
Choose your Mission and Change the World!
With Great Power...
Mankind’s industry and progress has been achieved at the cost of sustainability and security. The world is warming, our resources are diminishing and our ability to feed, protect and nurture is weakening.
Nations across the world are entrusting funds and political power to the G.E.O. to deal with this crisis now and in generations to come.
However, even a global organisation has limitations and you will need great wisdom as the power is now yours. You much choose which problems to address and where to address them and you will be judged by both the actions you take and the problems you ignore or create.
Playing the Game
Agents and Regions
As leader of the GEO, you influence regions by using agents. You can recruit agents from your Headquarters and deploy them in up to 12 regions around the world. With agents, you can enact policy cards.
Policies & Funds
In each region, there are proposed policy cards. Each agent can work on one card at a time. Cards cost money and every year a policy is in progress, money will be taken from your funds. funds are contributed from the GDP of regions where you are supported.
If your support in a region is low, you can be banned from the region and you will lose their fund contribution.
Developing Regions
Cards are the key to making changes to regions and ultimately to the world. Each region has its own strengths and weaknesses, so think carefully about what to do and where. It’s up to you to decide the best choices with the few agents and cards you have.
Some cards take many years to complete - these can be very powerful but you need to have an agent and the funds to pay for that cards every year until it is done. Each game turn is 5 years.
Unlocking New Policies
As you develop a region, you get more policy cards. Look out for cards marked with this icon.
